About Amit Khanna
Amit Khanna is the Founder & Design Principal at Amit Khanna Design Associates (AKDA), a globally recognised, multi-disciplinary firm based in New Delhi. Established in 2004, AKDA integrates the disciplines of architecture, interior design, furniture, lighting, and product design.
He leads the design studio, combining day-to-day design involvement with his primary responsibilities for the strategic direction of the practice.
Education & Philosophy
Khanna graduated from the School of Planning & Architecture (SPA), New Delhi, in 2002. He holds a Master’s in Sustainable Urban Development from the University of Oxford, where he was a recipient of the Moira Barrie Award (UK) and held the Kellogg Scholarship.
The studio’s philosophy is rooted in making regional specificity and sustainability intrinsic to the design process. This process is founded on suitable materiality and innovation, with every object undergoing the same scrutiny of process and exactitude, irrespective of appearance.
Recognition & Contributions
Amit Khanna has won several national and international awards and recognitions, including being feted by the Minister of Industries for his contribution to excellence in the use of indigenous stone in buildings. He is a regular speaker at industry events, and his articles and projects are published in national and international media. He also teaches at his alma mater, SPA Delhi.
