Vice President - Fire Codes & Standards

Shamim Rashid-Sumar, PE, FSFPE is Vice President, of Fire Codes and Standards with the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association. In this role, she works with international model building codes and standards organisations to advocate for fire-resistive and non-combustible construction and provides technical support regarding codes, standards, regulations, and legislation at the national, state, and local levels. She is a registered professional engineer and holds a Bachelor of Science in Fire Protection Engineering from the University of Maryland College Park. She was named a Fellow of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers in 2019 and is currently a Principal Member of several NFPA Technical Committees, including the Technical Committee on Fire Tests, which holds primary responsibility for NFPA 285, Standard Fire Test Method for Evaluation of Fire Propagation Characteristics of Exterior Wall Assemblies Containing Combustible Components.
