OMC Unveils AI-Powered Building With Kinematic Façade, Redefining Corporate Architecture

Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) has revealed a groundbreaking project that merges advanced technology and architectural innovation. The OMC, in collaboration with DFI, embarked on the creation of a state-of-the-art corporate headquarters and commercial complex. Situated along the Chennai-Kolkata highway, this prime location spans six acres and boasts a 500-meter-long frontage.

The three-tower complex encompasses a convention centre, auditorium, art gallery, meeting rooms, corporate headquarters, and leased-out spaces for private or public corporations. Atop the towers, an extraordinary recreational space known as the SkyDeck stretches nearly 400 meters, providing citizens with an unparalleled vantage point overlooking the upcoming hockey stadium & Badminton Academy. Emphasising the concept of a “walk to work,” the design integrates landscaped areas, pedestrian pathways, and multiple drop-off zones that connect the towers, facilitating seamless movement and allowing natural light to permeate the building. However, the project’s most distinctive feature lies in its kinematic façade, which optimizes sun exposure on the southwestern side. A remarkable functional façade comprising perforated aluminium fins strung with motion sensors reacts to the sun’s movement. These sensors enable the louvres to dynamically open or close, regulating the amount of sunlight entering the building and creating a comfortable working environment while enhancing the façade’s elegance and beauty. Moreover, using high-definition projectors, AI-controlled animations are projected onto the connecting bridges, transforming the entire building into a panoramic projection screen at night, further amplifying its allure.

With sustainability at its core, the project aims to achieve GBC Gold certification by meeting the stringent criteria associated with green buildings. By seamlessly integrating indoor and outdoor flexible spaces, traditional architectural wisdom converges with the versatility and strength of AI, resulting in an intelligent building that adapts to its surroundings, occupants, and the environment.
