Telangana, particularly Hyderabad, has emerged as a key hub for the green building movement in India, supported by strong participation from developers, industry stakeholders, and government institutions. The state currently hosts over 1,245 IGBC-registered projects, covering a green building footprint of 1.67 billion sq. ft. These include more than 715 commercial projects, 335 residential developments, 110 metro transit projects, 40+ logistics facilities, and over 20 net-zero projects, positioning Hyderabad among the leading cities for sustainable development.

Speaking at the summit, Matt Meyer, Governor of Delaware, highlighted the importance of international collaboration in tackling climate challenges. He noted that the work being undertaken in Hyderabad reflects the kind of leadership required globally to advance climate action and build resilient cities.

C. Shekar Reddy, National Chairman, IGBC, emphasised Telangana’s significant contribution to India’s green building movement. He noted that India currently has over 19,000 IGBC-registered projects covering 15.74 billion sq. ft., making it the second-largest green building footprint globally, with Telangana playing a key role in this progress.

The summit also witnessed the unveiling of the Telangana Coffee Table Book, showcasing 40+ iconic IGBC-certified green and net-zero projects across the state. Leaders from industry bodies such as CREDAI and NAREDCO, along with global organisations like ASHRAE, participated in discussions on sustainable urban development.

A plenary session on “Global Pathways to Smart & Net-Zero Cities: Lessons for Sustainable Urban Future” explored international best practices in climate-responsive planning, smart infrastructure, and low-carbon urban development. A high-level panel discussion on “The Future of Telangana’s Built Environment” brought together government and industry leaders to discuss priorities for sustainable growth, mobility infrastructure, and climate-resilient urban planning.

The event concluded with the IGBC Green Crusaders & Valedictory Session, where 47 projects representing 46.3 million sq. ft. of green building footprint were recognised for adopting IGBC’s green building practices and contributing to Telangana’s sustainability movement.
