The Ministry of Civil Aviation announced on Friday that the construction of the Ayodhya airport is expected to be finalized by September 2023. With an estimated cost of Rs. 350 crores, the airport will be capable of accommodating A-320/B-737-type aircraft. The development plan encompasses several significant aspects, including the extension of the existing runway from 1500m x 30m to 2200m x 45m for Code-C aircraft operation under IFR conditions.
To cater to the needs of passengers, the project includes an Interim Terminal Building equipped with sustainable features such as a Double Insulated Roofing System, Canopies for energy conservation, LED Lighting, and Low Heat Gain Double Glazing Units. The terminal’s design is inspired by the architectural style of the forthcoming Ram temple in Ayodhya, featuring various elements that evoke a sense of spirituality and grandeur.

The proposed Terminal Building will prominently showcase the magnificent Ram Mandir, offering visitors a truly awe-inspiring experience. Adorned with Shikhars of varying heights, the Terminal aims to capture the essence of the temple’s grandeur. Decorative columns will further enhance the façade, adding to the overall visual appeal of the structure.
Once completed, the Ayodhya airport will serve as an important transportation hub, facilitating seamless travel for tourists and devotees visiting the sacred city. The new facility will contribute to the region’s economic growth and tourism potential, while the temple-inspired architecture of the Terminal Building will serve as a symbol of cultural and spiritual significance.
As the construction work progresses, authorities remain committed to ensuring that the project adheres to the highest standards of quality and safety.
