In the vibrant & beach village of Anjuna in North Goa, nestled away in a quiet lane is a 5000 sq ft home named ‘CHÍNCHARO’, a Konkani word for ‘tamarind seed’, of which exists a glorious tamarind tree on site. This home belongs to Ar. Amit Sardesai & Ar. Rosette Lobo of Amit & Associates.
This design is an attempt to echo a delicate sense of balance & respect for the past and a desire for a new architecture to infuse the place with sentiment. The result of this design principle is a rich spatial experience, which is deeply resonant with traditional architecture and with the aspirations of modernity. The detailing in handling of light, the subtle understatement of ‘barefoot luxury’, rigorous use of proportion & scale (from the rooftop 7.5 mts to the eaves at 2.1m) and a tactile celebration of materials that surpass time & style.
Development of the plan. The site is tucked in the crux of the village, not very blessed with the view of the surroundings. The plan thus developed into an inward-looking home with a courtyard having a swimming pool in the centre. As you enter the house through a low porch, a custom-made teak wood door welcomes you to the 24-foot-tall living room, which takes one by surprise as it’s something no one is expecting. The semi-open dining and the 6.5 ft wide passage that leads to all 4 bedrooms are designed to get a clear view of the pool. It is around this area that the house revolves. Bathrooms of all rooms end with the open-to-sky shower spaces looking outwards into the landscape & onto the flying roofs.
Lingel Windows and Doors provided a wide range of fenestration solutions for this project, Lingel ‘s aluminum 6.0 center slim sliding doors of 25 mm center profile with external Georgian bars added a glam factor. Besides this Lingel 5.0 casement openable windows with Georgian bars in the shade of matt black were used.
