The skywalk at the Delhi Metro Railway Station, which was completed in March 2022, is one of VMZINC’s latest offerings, showcasing the potential of zinc as a building material. The 5,370 sq m bridge has used VMZINC’s Flatlock System for the structure and Quartz and Pigmento Red for the finish.

The renowned architectural firm ISAP has used VMZINC’s cladding as the main fascia material for the skywalk which is an extension of the foot-over bridge at the railway station. Connecting the Ajmeri Gate side of the platform with the Metro station and multi-level parking with multiple entry and exit points, the challenging project required a long-lasting material that could withstand Delhi’s harsh weather conditions.
The skywalk’s complex curved shape needed a malleable material that could cover the surface gracefully. Zinc, therefore, was the best choice. To give a harmonious look to the entire structure so that the bridge looked like a natural extension of the existing railway station, a combination of PIGMENTO red and QUARTZ was used in a gradient pattern.
Equipped with escalators and CCTV surveillance cameras, constructing the skywalk was no cakewalk. Constructed amid the pandemic situation, the structure had to be built above a functional underground Metro station just 3 metres below with major traffic movement. Needless to say, the architect did a fabulous job. The unique skywalk was thrown open to the public in the month of March 2022.
