The Façade Has A Major Role To Play In Energy Efficiency
Q. How Has The Growing Focus On Daylighting, Glare Control, And Acoustic Comfort Influenced The Development And Demand For Building Products In Recent Years?
People are looking for products that provide daylighting and glare control without keeping the heat inside. Therefore, a lot of builders and contractors are using glass screen systems because they want more daylight to come in, along with a hidden structure.
There are different kinds of glass systems and coating systems available that can help customers develop and maintain systems where daylight can be used in a better way. This is very common these days, and a lot of buildings are being designed in a way that allows more daylight.
The demand has definitely increased in recent years. People are becoming more aware and are looking to make more nature-friendly buildings and projects. I think this is very good for the overall economy and the global environment.
Since India has different climates and regions, a lot of research is required.
Energy efficiency needs to be planned differently for different locations. You can do the same in Srinagar as well as Kanyakumari, but the approach has to be different.

Q. How Are IGBC And LEED Requirements, Along With NBC Compliance, Shaping Customer Expectations And The Market For Sustainable Building Products?
These government parameters, NGT and NBC (National Building Code) requirements, are very much a matter of concern these days for all users who are making buildings. Anyone developing a building definitely needs to take care of these factors and ensure that they meet LEED certification requirements and follow the National Building Code.
Especially in government projects, NBC plays a very important role. If you talk about ACP, it is definitely a product that is required to meet LEED or NBC requirements. If you are using ACP in your building, it can contribute towards meeting the requirements of LEED and IGBC certifications.
We are also members of IGBC, so ACP plays an important role in helping projects meet these certifications.
Q. With The Growing Emphasis On Performance And Sustainability, How Important Are Standards And Certifications Such As BIS, ASTM And EN In Selecting Building Products?
These certifications are definitely very important. Whenever we go to any big project, they always ask for certifications. We also have the required certifications. We are currently submitting for BIS and will get the BIS certification very soon.
For European standards, we have fire test certificates from EN, including EN 13501 Part 1. We also have A2 certification from an Indian NABL-certified laboratory.
Certifications are very important because they confirm that the product being used is as per international quality standards and is suitable for the buildings being constructed. Customers are investing hundreds and hundreds of crores in these buildings, and these buildings are not made for 10 or 20 years, but for the next 100 or 200 years. So, certifications help make sure that the right product is being used.

Q. What Role Do Manufacturers And Solution Providers Have In Supporting The Industry’s Transition Towards Passive Design, Energy Efficiency And Net-Zero-Ready Buildings?
The use of ACP itself provides energy efficiency. If you use ACP, the electricity rating will always go down. We have certifications for this as well, along with a lot of laboratory reports.
We always supplement our products with these lab reports and tests so that the person using the product can understand how it will help their building or infrastructure in terms of energy efficiency.
The industry is definitely moving towards energy-saving and net-zero buildings because it is the need of the hour. Everyone is looking for energy-saving or net-zero buildings. As I said earlier, these buildings are being made for the next 100 or 200 years. Looking at the future and the focus on energy and carbon savings, it is very necessary for all industry experts to think about this.
Q. Why Can Seemingly Similar Products Vary Significantly In Price, And What Factors Should Customers Consider When Comparing Them?
I think the most important criterion is the age and experience of the company. This is very important because if you are working with a company that is very new to the industry and has no experience, how will they supply a good product?
The second factor is the certifications the company has. Customers should look at how many certifications the company they are buying from has. The third factor is the experience of users with the product. Customers should look at how many projects the company has supplied material to; how many projects have been implemented and what the results have been.
I think these three factors are very important when assessing a company and the performance of its products.
Maintenance is also important. It should be easy to maintain and clean. This is why we always promote ACP, because ACP is a low-maintenance product. Once it is applied, it is very easy to clean and maintain. Installation is also very easy, as ACP is a very common product in India.
It also provides good energy savings and adds good aesthetics to any project.
